Our love for God transcends mere sentimentality. It is embodied in our obedience to God’s will, and made manifest in our commitment to faithfully follow the teachings of Christ, “if you love Me, you will obey my commandments.” (John 14:15-24)
Jesus proclaims that the second greatest commandment is to “...love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31-34).We cannot truly love God and not love our neighbor. By the same token, in loving our neighbor, we express a love for God.
This is not limited to the sharing of material gifts, but encompasses the sharing of justice, forgiveness, kindness, compassion and love. In the same way it has been shown to us, we are expected to share it with others.
